Now that swimming has started the children are enjoying the warmer water thanks to the new solar panels that have been installed on the room 14 roof. We are lucky once again to have the swimming instructors in the pool with the swimmers, thanks to the "Find Your Field of Dreams" programme.
Please remind the children to bring their togs every Tuesday, Thursday and Friday.
The children have been busy practicing their running, jumping and throwing skills and are looking forward to showcasing these at the junior athletics on Friday at 9:30. We would love you to come along and watch the children demonstrate their skills.

We have had a very exciting start to the term with International week last week. The children really enjoyed making flags that represented their country of birth. As part of the celebrations we were very lucky to have a visit from Rita one of our lovely parents. Rita explained about the significance of the Sari and using one of the learners as a model, showed how one is worn.
Rita also used the traditional Henna to create some henna designs on the children's arms:
The children thought this was very special and we would all like to thank Rita very much for sharing some aspects of her culture with us.
At the end of last term to help celebrate book week the children created some amazing book jackets. These are on display in room 3 and we would love you to come and take a look at them.
Just a reminder that all the children need to bring hats to school this term and also togs, as we hope to start swimming now that the weather is improving. Could you please help us by ensuring that all the children's clothing is named.

What a very busy term we have just completed. Firstly we would like to thank our two Master's students Miss Cochrane and Mrs Halima for all their work and support in room 3 for the last two terms. The learners have really enjoyed working with them. In the last two weeks of the term they worked on some Technology activities, one involved coming up with a solution to help Mrs Edwards to be able to find her glasses easily. This involved planning and making suitable holders for her glasses that could be worn around her neck:
The other Technology activity involved interviewing a buddy to find out things like their favourite colour, style of jewellery etc. and using this information to design and make them a piece of jewellery:
These activities were thoroughly enjoyed by all.
As part of our Topic work in term 2 we have been learning about Electricity. As part of our study the learners got to move around four different classrooms and do some fun hands-on activities based around our study. In room 3 the learners made a range of different circuits:
In the other rooms the learners made a torch from a circuit, did some experiments involving Static Electricity and got to make a slushy by generating energy using a modified pushbike.
We are looking forward to another busy, fun term after the break.

Hello to everyone and it is great to be back on the Blog.
For Mathematics in room 3 we have been learning about Geometry and the different attributes of shapes. As part of our visual art and to tie in with our Geometry we made some tessellations using recycled magazines. They took a long time to complete but the finished result was well worth the effort. Here are just a few:

For Mathematics we are now focusing on Multiplication and Division. You could help your child by encouraging them to practice counting in 2s, 5s and 10s.
We have been practicing gymnastics and balancing for PE this term and everyone has been enjoying our sessions. We will post some photographs on our next Blog.

What a great time was had by all at the school picnic last week. It was lovely having another opportunity to spend time with our learners and their whanau.
The children have been enjoying their swimming and building on the skills they learnt last year. Thank you to the parents and caregivers who came along last Thursday afternoon to watch the room 3 learners show their swimming skills.
As part of out Tuakana teina room 3 children having been working alongside their buddy class, room 13, to listen to each other read. Every Friday we get together with our room 13 buddy and work together to create a poster about "Friendship" which ties in closely with our current learning.
We look forward to sharing our finished posters on our blog.
For Mathematics at the moment we are focusing on addition and then moving onto subtraction.
Just a reminder that the children are given 5 spelling words each Monday to practice writing for homework and will be tested on these at the end of the week.

Welcome back everyone to a new year of fun and learning in room 3.
We have been busy getting to know each other and getting routines established.
For Maths we have been working on statistics: collecting data and constructing simple graphs from the data.
With the hot weather we have been enjoying the daily swim and have been very grateful for our new air conditioning unit.
I look forward to meeting parents this week and learning more about your children.

How great to finally have some lovely weather. We were all able to take advantage of it on Thursday morning when we had our junior school athletics. Everyone had a great time showing their running, jumping and throwing skills. A big thank you to the parents who came and supported us all and a special thanks to the room 14 helpers who did such a wonderful job at not only helping the teachers but encouraging and supporting the younger children. Well done!
The children are continuing to enjoy the swimming sessions with the instructors from the Find Your Field of Dreams programme. Last week the focus was on water safety and how, when and where to use a lifejacket:
We look forward to the next three weeks of swimming.
This week we are focusing on Road Safety and have Constable Amy coming to remind us all about staying safe.
